    About Us

Welcome to T&E, Inc. A not for profit corporation dedicated

to appreciation and preservation of our native flora and fauna.

    History

Started in 1995, T & E, Inc. represents the result of a dream shared by Tom and Eleanor Wootten to positively affect protection and preservation of our natural resources. Although Tom passed away in 2007, Eleanor and the family continue the dream. The thrust of the corporation is along three lines:

    • Personal activism of the principals, both in volunteer research and advocacy.
    • Encouraging students in Conservation Biology and related fields, by offering financial grants especially for field research and public education. Special emphasis is placed on research benefiting threatened and endangered species.
    • Working with federal, state, local, and private officials on specific management opportunities.

The corporation is a tax-exempt 501c private foundation incorporated under New Mexico laws. Copies of Articles of Incorporation and income tax returns are on file with the New Mexico Attorney General. Sources of funding have included individuals, and wildlife related organizations, but is primarily provided by the Wootten family.

It is our intent to concentrate funds in research and educational projects. The majority of grants have gone to researchers at New Mexico State University and University of Arizona, but have including the University of New Mexico, University of Texas at El Paso, University of Texas at Austin, and Northern Arizona University .Projects have involved work in cooperation with or conjunction with US Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, US Fish and Wildlife Service, National Park Service, Arizona and New Mexico Game and Fish Departments, New Mexico Natural Heritage Program and the rare plant committees of both Arizona and New Mexico.

In the past, corporate officials assisted projects on a volunteer basis. Examples of this have included vegetative surveys of Aplomado Falcon habitat in Mexico, a bird banding project at Research Ranch and leading field trips for both

federal and private entities, and T & E plant clearances and surveys.

Reports written in connection with funded projects are available to the public on request and normally at no charge. A bibliography of reports can be found by visiting the Funded Proposals link.
